In 1936, Governor of Michigan Frank Fitzgerald declared April 18th Champions' Day to celebrate national athletic achievements by Detroit teams and homegrown Detroit athletes. To commemorate such a historic day, we invite you to celebrate with us during Champions' Week. Join us in our inaugural year for any or all of the 5 events.

Play ball where men became legends--the corner of Michigan and Trumbull. With the help of the Navin’s Field Ground Crew we will play a friendly game of softball on the field they keep clean. Everyone will get a chance to hit and field where Detroiters grew up loving America’s pastime.

Detroit Drunken Historical Society and Detroit Trivia Night at McShane's

Thursday 7:00PM April 17

Hear Charles Avison, the author of City of Champions, explain why Detroit deserves the aforementioned nickname. This Detroit Drunken Historical Society event will conclude with Charles showing the world’s oldest movie about baseball with sound – filmed in Detroit in the 1930’s. Stay late for some competitive Detroit-themed trivia.

Tailgate of Champions in Campus Martius

 Honor Detroit’s oldest team by tailgating in the heart of downtown. With the support of Fountain Bistro, we will have corn hole, ping-pong, music and more before the Tigers game. Celebrate Detroit Champions of the past by cheering on our current hometown team and keep the fun going all night.
